Getting What You Want at End of Life – Educational Workshop
Learn how to make advance directives effective with Jim Wagner Ph.D. Emeritus Assistant Professor, Medical Ethics, U.F. College of Medicine (Retired) and Eloise Harman, M.D. Pulmonary/Critical Care, Malcolm Randall VA Medical Center.
This educational event will be of interest to persons who want to learn about advance directives, as well as those preparing to complete or revise an existing directive. This process must include a clarification of personal values as well as discussion with family members and significant others, whose support you will need to be successful. Attendance with your partner is advantageous.
The first hour will provide detailed information about advance directives, how they work and what makes them effective. The second portion will focus on the physician’s role, what s/he generally looks for and wants to know about end-of-life treatment preferences, including the types of issues that a physician might ask regarding the patient (loved one). The last part of the program will address your questions, concerns, or experiences that have not yet been discussed.
