Mission

The mission of Prairie Creek Conservation Cemetery is to provide a natural burial choice that conserves land and reunites people with the Earth.

Our Story

PCCC was founded in 2007 by a group of community members who met once a month for three years. They conducted research and planned their vision of combining land conservation with natural burial practices. The group worked with land conservation partner Alachua Conservation Trust (ACT) to set aside a portion of the Prairie Creek Preserve site for conservation burial. In late July 2010, the vision became a reality with the licensing of PCCC. The cemetery opened in time to fulfill the last wishes of beloved physician, environmentalist, and community member, Dr. Kathy Cantwell, who was buried at PCCC in the spot she selected only weeks prior to her burial. Today, our story continues through the legacies of those laid to rest here and the land we protect and preserve.
