Interested in volunteering at PCCC?

Since the inception of Prairie Creek Conservation Cemetery in 2010 volunteers have been an essential part of the work we do. Now, there is a vibrant and diverse community of people who actively support our mission by sharing their time and energy with us. Our volunteers are the heart of PCCC and we would not be able to do the work we do without their help. Much of the volunteer work at PCCC generally falls into three categories: digging graves, assisting with burials, and land restoration work.

Grave digging

All graves at PCCC are hand dug by our digging crew, known as the Society of the Pick and Spade. By hand digging our graves we are able to minimize our impact on the land and also bring together a diverse community of volunteers who dig out of reverence for the land, to honor the deceased, and respectful camaraderie. We welcome diggers of all strengths and after helping with three digs, volunteers receive a free Society of Pick and Spade T-shirt!

Burials

Part of our philosophy at PCCC is to allow family and friends of the deceased to participate as much or as little as they would like in the burial process. In order to facilitate this, we always have a burial team with enough staff/volunteers present to complete the burial.

These burial teams assist with graveside set up, lowering, closing the grave, and clean up. For our volunteers, this selfless service is a way to reverently support and help grieving families through a challenging time.

land Restoration Work

As a conservation cemetery, PCCC is dedicated to the stewardship of the land and the native ecosystems found here. Twice a year we hold Community Planting Days for planting natives in the cemetery and throughout the year we also try to hold regular volunteer work days. These events can be found on our events page here.

Occasionally we can use extra help on our day to day restoration activities. If you would like to be contacted about these opportunities, fill out the form below!

Other

If you have a unique skill, specialized knowledge, or another ability that you feel could be useful for PCCC and are interested in sharing your time with us, please let us know. We always welcome volunteers to help us with restoration work, simple carpentry projects, fundraising and outreach programs, and much more!

If you love PCCC and want to share your time, skills, and knowledge with us on a consistent, long term basis, consider serving on our Board of Directors! Our Board is a diverse and engaged group of volunteers dedicated to the mission of PCCC.
